Botox/Dysport

Botox® is commonly requested by patients who are looking for ways to address deep lines and wrinkles on their face. Botox® is an injection that is administered into the areas of the skin that are of concern, and is meant to target the muscles that contract and cause lines and wrinkles over time. Botox® is made of purified botulinum toxin type A, and can paralyze the facial muscles to release wrinkles and folds from the face.

Though the results of Botox® are often seen in as little as two days, a full week may be needed in order to see the entire results from the injections. Botox® can be injected regularly in order to maintain the appearance that it achieves. Typically, the results last for approximately three to four months, so patients are encouraged to schedule follow-up appointments with Dr. McMahan to continue enjoying the results that it provides.

Botox® is extremely safe and is a commonly used injection that is approved by the FDA for treatment of cosmetic concerns. It was initially used back in 1989 for the treatment of various muscle disorders, but began to be used in 2002 for cosmetic purposes after it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Another commonly used injection that is offered at Advanced Aesthetic and Laser Surgery is Dysport®. It is a more recent product breakthrough, but can accomplish the same wrinkle reduction as Botox®. It too is FDA approved, as of 2009, and can be used in the same areas of the face as Botox®.
