Botox/Dysport

Ohio Botox Purified Botulinum Toxin, or Botox, is a globally recognized cosmetic treatment for removing wrinkles, laugh lines, frowns, and dynamic facial lines in the forehead and brows, and crow’s feet beneath the eyes. Botox is injected into the skin where the muscles have shrunk or contracted to cause wrinkles or lines. The toxin paralyzes the targeted facial muscle for a temporary period of time. As a result, the muscle releases itself and the wrinkle vanishes from the face.

The results of the Botox treatment are usually visible within two to three days. However, it may take up to a week to see the full benefits of the treatment. The effects of a single Botox treatment generally last for a period of three to four months. The treatment is non-invasive and non-surgical, which makes it a popular treatment around the world.

Botox has been available since 1989 for treating spastic muscle disorders. The treatment began to be used for cosmetic purposes from 2002 onwards, after the FDA approval of Botox Cosmetic in April 2002.

Dysport, on the other hand, is a very recent development for treating facial wrinkles. It is also an injectable chemical similar to Botox. It immobilizes the muscles in the same way as Botox, and achieves temporary removal of wrinkles and creases.

The FDA approved Dysport in April 2009 specifically for the treatment of head and neck muscular spasms and deep lines between the eyebrows. Both Botox and Dysport use the same Botulinum Toxin Type A ingredients. However, some reports say that Dysport has fewer proteins surrounding the toxin. That could make it a good alternative for those patients who have developed an immune response to Botox.

Dr. James McMahan provides his patients with both options of Botox as well as Dysport. It requires a specialized skill and experience to administer these treatments in accurate measure. Dr. McMahan is a recognized specialist to provide these treatments in a safe and conservative manner.
