Post Operative Instructions
Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)
- Keep your dressings on for at least 24 hours.
- If you have no drains, you may then remove the dressings and shower over the incisions.
- If you have surgical tapes over the incisions, leave them in place.
- Do not use ointments on your incisions unless instructed to do so.
- Keep your arms wrapped with the elastic wraps or the surgical garment at all times except when showering. They should not be tight.
- After four days, you may leave the garment off long enough to wash it.
ACTIVITY:
- Keep your arms elevated on pillows as much as possible.
- Avoid strenuous activities for at least two weeks.
DIET:
- Start with clear liquids and advance to a regular diet as tolerated.
MEDICATIONS:
- Take your pain medication as directed. If you do not need it, do not take it. Cut back as your pain improves or if it makes you too drowsy.
- You may switch to Tylenol at any time.
- Avoid aspirin containing products.
- It is advisable to take a laxative and extra fiber such as Metamucil while you are taking the pain medications.
- If you have any problems, such as:
- Excessive drainage
- Excessive pain or swelling
- Fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit
- Calf pain, ankle swelling or difficulty breathing
- Numbness in you hands or fingers
