Post Operative Instructions

WOUND CARE:

• Keep the foam tape over your chin for three days.  It will be removed in the office
• Once the sutures are removed, leave the surgical tapes in place for several days.  Once they become very loose you may remove them and apply Vitamin E daily.
• You may apply ice packs to you chin for fifteen minutes every hour for the first two days to reduce bruising and swelling.

• Keep your head elevated for several days.
• Avoid strenuous activity for one week.
• You must avoid activities where your chin could be traumatized for at least three weeks.

• Stick to a soft diet to avoid excessive chewing for several days.

• Take your pain medication as directed.  If you do not need it, do not take it.  Cut down on the pain medication as your pain improves or if it makes you too drowsy.
• You may switch to Tylenol at any time.
• If antibiotics were prescribed, take them as directed.

PROBLEMS:

• If you have any problems, such as:
  1. Excessive drainage
  2. Excessive pain or swelling
  3. Fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit
