Post Operative Instructions

WOUND CARE:

• Keep the yellow gauze on your face until it starts to peel off.
• You may trim the loose edges with a scissors as needed.
• Dab over the yellow gauze with a solution containing one cup water and one teaspoon white vinegar twice daily.
• After cleaning with the above solution, apply an antibiotic ointment twice daily.
• You may drain a considerable amount of clear-yellowish fluid for the first day or two.  This is normal.  Simply wipe away the excess.
• It is OK to shower the day after surgery, your face may get wet but you should not run the water directly on your face.

• Keep you head elevated for several days.
• Avoid strenuous activity for one week.
• You must avoid direct sun exposure on your face for several months after surgery.

• Start with liquids and advance to a soft diet as tolerated.
• You should avoid foods that require a lot of chewing for five days.

• Take your prescribed pain medications as needed.  You may switch to Tylenol at any time.
• If you were given a prescription for antibiotics and an antiviral medication, take them as directed.
• If you have a lot of itching after several days, you may apply 0.5% Hydrocortisone cream twice daily and take Benedryl as needed.
• After one week, resume your hydroquinone cream twice daily and use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 25 if you will be outside.

PROBLEMS:

• If you have any problems, such as:
  1. Excessive pain or swelling
  2. Fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit
