Post Operative Instructions

WOUND CARE:

• Use ice packs over your ears for the first 36-48 hours.
• Leave the head wrap in place for three days.
• You may then remove the wrap and dressings.
• You may shower and get your ears wet after removing the dressings.
• Then clean behind your ears twice daily with Hydrogen Peroxide.
• Use a headband or elastic wrap over your ears for ten days at night.
• Avoid pull-over shirts for three weeks after surgery.

• Keep your head elevated for several days.
• Take it easy for at least one week.
• Avoid trauma to your ears for at least three weeks.

• Start with liquids and advance to a regular diet as tolerated.

• Take your antibiotic as directed.
• Take your pain medication as prescribed.  Cut back on the pain pills as your pain improves or if it makes you too drowsy.  You may switch to acetaminophen at any time.
• Do not take aspirin containing products.

PROBLEMS:

• If you have any problems, such as:
  1. Excessive drainage.
  2. Excessive pain or swelling
  3. Fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit
