Botox Cosmetic Candidates Columbus OH

An ideal candidate for Botox® is someone who is unhappy with their facial ‘dynamic’ lines which are created as result of facial expression by contraction of the underlying muscles. Most of the least resistant of these facial lines are located on the upper parts of the face. These areas are the lines around eyes, on the forehead, the brow, and crow’s feet. Ideal candidates can also be people who posses am aesthetically pleasing appearance when their face is relaxed but lose that appearance once they squint, frown or smile due to the formation of unwanted skin lines in the process of facial animation.

Nonsurgical Treatment

Further, Botox® is ideal for patients who are looking for a non-surgical solution to their wrinkles. Patients who fear or are not ready for invasive surgical cosmetic procedures tend to love the idea of getting a relatively simple injection to treat their condition. Moreover, patients should also be mindful of their expectations from the treatment. Not all lines or muscle motion will necessarily be completely eliminated with their treatment. Some residual motion helps to prevent a mask-like appearance. Deeper lines which do not respond completely to Botox® injections may benefit from a filler such as Juvederm® or Restylane®.

Contraindications

Patients who are pregnant or nursing are highly discouraged from getting treated with Botox®. Patients who suffer from certain neuromuscular conditions such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Myasthenia Gravis or Eaton-Lambert Syndrome should discuss these conditions with their physician before getting Botox® injections.

Botox® works best on patients who are younger than the age of 65 however older patients also benefit from Botox® injections and most of them do not notice it to the less effective. Many patients of this age are perfectly happy to continue to use neurotoxin injections, fillers and fractional lasers to keep them looking more youthful so that they never ‘undergo the knife’.

Recovery and Results

Similar to any injection-administered treatment, a Botox® injection carries the risk of bruising. Therefore, patients should take care to avoid any medication which can trigger bleeding or bruising during the injection for about one week prior to treatment. An extensive list of these medications is available upon request. Moreover, since it is important for the injected Botox® to remain in the intended muscle and not migrate into adjacent, unintended muscles, patients are instructed not to rub the injected area or do strenuous activities for about two hours.

The results achieved through a typical Botox® treatment last around three to four months. Most patients see a gradual return of motion to the relevant injected muscle as it begins to wear off and is an indication that it is time for the next treatment. Many patients comment that when they get their next injection before the previous one has worn off completely, their next treatment tends to last longer.

By keeping these facial muscles weakened or paralyzed with neurotoxin injections, the skin overlying these muscles is not subject to the accordion affect of muscle contraction which may result in long term reduction in the appearance of facial age lines and wrinkles.
